The date harvest, a cherished tradition in Tunisia, typically occurs at the end of the year and lasts for just two months, yielding the country’s beloved fruit. A few months later, pickers return to install protective nets or perforated white bags, safeguarding the dates from insects and rain.
As you arrive at the oasis, witness the skillful pickers as they ascend the palm trees with impressive agility, expertly maneuvering with bare hands. At the top, they carefully cut the date bunches using serrated pruning knives and pass them down the trunk in a synchronized dance of teamwork. Once on the ground, the team will conduct the first sorting, categorizing the dates by size and quality.
